Makoa Andres

Makoa Andres

Sport: Baseball

School: Waiakea

Performance: For starters, Andres pitched a four-inning no-hitter against Hawaii Prep on Tuesday in a 15-0 victory.

But the real heavy lifting for Andres came three days later in a battle of unbeatens against Kamehameha at Wong Stadium.

Andres blew a save in the seventh inning by allowing Kobi Candaroma’s two-out double, but the sophomore regrouped to get four more outs.

That allowed Waiakea time to rally against Candaroma.

Kamehameha intentionally walked two batters with no outs in the eighth to get to Andres, who served a 1-0 pitch into right field with the bases loaded to give Waiakea a 2-1 victory.

“(Kamehameha) wanted me,” Andres said afterward.

Andres said his heart dropped after blowing the save.

But he finished the night as the hero and with his second victory of the week.
